After Michigan’s dominant win over Ohio State, the Buckeyes are watching in-state talent switch sides in recruiting and exchange potential scarlet and grey for maize and blue.
When the Michigan Wolverines defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes for the second consecutive year, the notion of last season being a fluke was put to bed. Now, it seems like things have changed in recruiting as well.
Following the big win on Saturday, the Wolverines were able to land a few commitments from the state of Ohio, and from the outskirts, it looks like things are changing quickly in the rivalry.
Despite Michigan’s overall advantage, for much of the 21st century, or at least since 2001, the Scarlet and Grey have been the more dominant team. Still, these past two seasons have shown that the Wolverines have come back to life, much to the detest of the Columbus folks and the joy of Ann Arbor.
Michigan-Ohio State rivalry has impacted recruiting
Granted, much of Michigan’s starting lineup this season are upperclassmen who will soon hang up their cleats or enhance Maize and Blue for NFL colors next season. But they are doing wonders off the field, helping swing recruits to their side and even going into Ohio to ensure Ohio State doesn’t get their own in-state prospects.
The question now is, how long can this last? For the past two years, the Wolverines have been able to enjoy the misery of the Buckeyes after a long stretch of being on the wrong side of that rivalry. Now that the tables have turned in their favor, how do Jim Harbaugh’s players continue the trend and keep Ryan Day’s team down? That involves proper recruiting and sticking to fundamentals.
It’s looking good now, and if somehow the Wolverines stand in SoFi as the last team standing in college football this year, there could be a few more flips to the program. That includes within the state of Ohio.
