The Mets receive two minor-league position players in return from the Marlins — infielder Marco Vargas and catcher Ronald Hernández.
Robertson has pitched an impressive campaign with the Mets, taking over as the team’s closer after Edwin Diaz suffered a season-ending injury during the World Baseball Classic.
The 38-year-old has a 2.05 ERA, 14 saves in 17 opportunities, and 48 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched.
When asked about the possibility of being traded, Robertson wasn’t thrilled by the idea of joining another team mid-season.
“I’m not excited about it,” Robertson said in an interview with Newsday. “I like it here. I’m not excited about it. It’s just what happens. If they move me, it’s because the organization sees a need to, to make them better. If they do, I’m going to end up on a team that really wants to have me. And I’ll probably end up in a very similar role that I’m in now, a high-leverage situation.”
“If it happens, it happens,” Robertson continued. “I’ll pack up everything and figure out where to go and figure out which hotel we’re going to live in and all that crap. Cars getting shipped. It’s just a mess. It’s a mess for a family.”
After going on a major spending spree last off-season, the Mets sit 17 games back of the Atlanta Braves for first place in the NL East and seven games back of the final wild-card spot.
The Marlins are 10.5 games behind the Braves in the NL East but are half a game behind the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies for the final wild-card spot.
