Meta: Facebook parent Meta starts laying off employees: These divisions hit first – Times of India
Teams that are impacted
Citing a Meta spokesperson, CNBC reported that the job cuts have started.
“Employees with backgrounds in technical backgrounds like user experience, software engineering, graphics programming and other roles announced on LinkedIn that they had been let go by the company,” the report said.
Reportedly, an employee who was impacted by the layoffs said the job cuts are also taking place in product-facing teams. It has been mentioned that layoffs in business-facing roles, such as finance, legal and HR will begin in May.
Furthermore, the teams who weren’t impacted by the latest cuts may be affected in layoffs next month.
Citing LinkedIn posts, the report also indicated that employees who worked as gameplay programmers were also affected by the layoffs. These engineers work on virtual- and augmented-reality products, according to a Meta job listing.
Meta job cuts
Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, announced in March that the company plans to cut 10,000 jobs. This is the second wave of mass firing at the Mark Zuckerberg-led company. The company laid off 11,000 employees in the first round in November cutting about 21,000 jobs over two rounds of layoffs.
Zuckerberg said the cuts which are part of a “year of efficiency” will be “tough”. He also said that 5,000 vacancies at the firm will be left unfilled.
“This will be tough and there’s no way around that. It will mean saying goodbye to talented and passionate colleagues who have been part of our success. They’ve dedicated themselves to our mission and I’m personally grateful for all their efforts. We will support people in the same ways we have before and treat everyone with the gratitude they deserve,” Zuckerberg said in a memo.
After restructuring, we plan to lift hiring and transfer freezes in each group, he added.
