Met Gala: Roger Federer, Patrick Mahomes and Serena Williams wow but Tom Brady misses out
Several of sport’s biggest stars wowed on the fashion’s biggest night as Roger Federer, Patrick Mahomes and Serena Williams led the athletes swapping the court and field for the famous steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The sporting icons proved they could shine off the field just as much as they do on it as they attended the Met Gala Monday night.
Tennis legend Federer headlined the sports delegation as a chair for this year’s extravaganza.
Federer was one of the evening’s chairs and among the early arrivals, walked up the Met’s carpeted steps a few minutes after fellow co-chair Dua Lipa arrived.
The tennis star says it makes sense for athletes to be at the Met Gala because they’ve become a bigger part of the fashion world in recent years.

‘I think the sports people have gotten more and more fashionable,’ Federer told the AP. ‘We’re fortunate to get onto covers much more frequently nowadays. Before it was always the models, the good-looking people, not the athletes.’
‘Life has been so intertwined between sports and fashion in recent years, so it´s nice to come out on a type of red carpet like this,’ he said before ascending the steps.
Meanwhile fellow tennis icon Serena Williams revealed she is expecting her second child with husband Alexis Ohanian as she attended the event.
The 41-year-old tennis superstar showed off a prominent baby bump as she walked the red carpet at Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City with her husband.
She welcomed her first child, a daughter named Alexis Olympia Jr., in 2017, though she goes by Olympia.
Serena also confirmed the pregnancy with an Instagram post showcasing her elegant Gucci dress.
‘Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala,’ she playfully captioned her post.
She had previously mentioned wanting to have another child after announcing her retirement from tennis in August of last year, which she seems to have made good on.

Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes also looked dapper on the red carpet with wife Brittany.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback suited up in a black doubled-breasted suit and high-neck white mock turtleneck, topping off the look with a chunky silver chain and shades.
Brittany looked glamorous as she matched her husband’s bling in a long white off-the-shoulder dress with a sequined neckline and split up the middle, and sky-high silver heels.
Mahomes was in good company with fellow NFL star Stefon Diggs also in attendance.
The Buffalo Bills wide receiver looked impeccable in a tweed tailored suit, sticking to the theme of Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, in the late designer’s favorite Chanel fabric.
However, there was one football star noticeably absent.
NFL GOAT Tom Brady has regularly attended the event with ex-wife Gisele Bundchen in the past but the Brazilian supermodel turned up alone Monday following the former couple’s divorce back in October.

Chinese-American Gold medalist Eileen Gu nailed the theme as the freestyle skier was dressed by Robert Wun in his ‘wine stain dress.’
WNBA star Brittney Griner looked chic on the red carpet in New York City as she attended the 2023 Met Gala with wife Cherelle.
The 6-foot-9 center was dressed by Calvin Klein and wore a long taupe blazer with matching suit pants and semi-sheer top in a similar shade underneath.
Her appearance at the event comes almost five months after her release from a Russian penal colony on December 8.
Her hair was kept simple as it was still short after she was forced to cut off her locks as brutal conditions in the penal colony caused them to freeze after showers.
She walked the carpet alongside her wife Cherelle, who wore a long, strapless white dress which hugged and complimented her figure.

Dwyane Wade and wife Gabrielle Union provided a stylish contrast in monochromatic ensembles as they walked the red carpet.
The Breaking In star, 50, donned an all-red ensemble of a leather duster coat over a dress with a matching clutch.
The Omaha, Nebraska-born beauty wore her braided locks parted in the middle and accessorized with gold necklaces and bracelets.
The NBA alum, 41, was clad in a Prada ensemble of a long black coat over a sleeveless black leather vest.
Wade, who played for the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls during his career, rounded out his ensemble with black gloves, black pants and black boots.
His appearance at the event comes one day after he and Union suffered transphobic jeers while leaving Madison Square Garden.

The 41-year-old, who played for the Heat for 16 years, was at Madison Square Garden Sunday to watch his former team rout the hosts.
However, the retired, three-time NBA championship winner, who is the father of 15-year-old transgender model Zaya, faced homophobic jeers as he left the game.
In a clip provided to DailyMail.com by Adam Glyn, who filmed the incident, Wade can be seen following his wife Gabrielle towards a car.
Some of the sports fans gathered outside the arena began to boo the former shooting guard, with one shouting, ‘You mutilated your son,’ at Wade in reference to Zaya.
