Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence and others come out in support of ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike | English Movie News – Times of India

The ongoing WGA, Writers Guild Of America strike is still awaiting a resolution. Actors’ unions are also supporting the writers and their demand for better pay, improved working conditions and better recognition has shed light on the plight of the entertainment industry as a whole.
The SAG, Screen Actors Guild and the AFTRA, American Federation of Television and Radio Artistshave also voted that if the WGA issues are not resolved, then their members will join them.Almost 65,000 members voted in favour of supporting the WGA.
Actors too now say that a vast majority of them are barely able to make ends meet and are certainly not ‘swimming in money’ as it is commonly believed that Hollywood actors do. A media report by Reuters quoted actor Laz Alonso, who is known for his role as Mother’s Milk in the OTT show, The Boys, calls it a “Very blue collar industry.” Another actor, Jackie Tohn known for her role as MelRose in the TV show, GLOW, has said that actors keep going for auditions, but most of the time they never land the job. She added that when they finally do get a job, most of the money they earn is used for paying bills and meeting living expenses like gas, mortgage and groceries.
Actors who are considered power players in the industry like Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Glenn Close have signed the petition and Harrison Ford has also said that he is ready to support them.
