Melvin Gordon signs with Kansas City Chiefs practice squad after being released by Denver Broncos

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed two-time Pro Bowler Melvin Gordon to their practice squad, following his recent release from the Denver Broncos.

The 29-year-old’s fumble issues became too much for the Broncos to deal with after he fumbled for the fifth time in 10 games. Two of the five fumbles resulted in turnovers after they were recovered by the defense. 

Gordon signed with the Chiefs practice squad on Monday, according to ESPN.

This season, he rushed for 318 yards and caught 25 passes in 10 games, before being released following his fumble against the Raiders in Week 11.

Rookie running back Isiah Pacheco has led the Chiefs with 455 rushing yards this season, while also rotating with veteran running back Jerick McKinnon.

Ronald Jones made his season debut for the Chiefs in Sunday’s win over the Rams, while the team’s original starting running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain.

The Chiefs and Broncos will play each other again in Week 14 and again in Week 17, potentially giving Gordon two chances to gain revenge if he is elevated to the main roster in time for the game. 

Before his two-and-a-half-year stint with the Broncos, Gordon played five seasons for the Chargers.

He has rushed for 6,462 yards and 55 touchdowns and caught 309 passes with 14 touchdowns over his career, with his best year in 2017 with the Chargers.
