Meet Ramona Tabita, the Italian Stylist Behind Mariacarla Boscono’s Vampire Look in Venice

Aside from the references to the forces of dark and light, each look had a sculptural quality. Despite the airiness of the black tulle, it defined the space around the model. Both outfits were elegant, a word that isn’t part of the lexicon of Y2K revivalism which the stylist personally enjoys.

Growing up in Sicily, Tabita absorbed the beauty around her, the flashing sea, the stone houses. The youngest in the family with free time on her hands, Tabita discovered MTV in the late ’90s aged 10. “I remember when I first saw Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Lil’ Kim,” she says. “For me it was so strong and I think my aesthetic is influenced by this period, the best period of MTV.” Maybe it primed her to work with musicians as well; Tabita is currently collaborating with rappers Ghali and Marracash.

Tabita’s path to styling wasn’t a direct one. She left Sicily to study fine arts in Rome, which gave her experience working with her hands, as well as a camera. She then relocated to Milan—currently her home base—where she studied fashion design. She then started writing for various publications, including Vogue, and worked towards her dream which she reached slowly and determinedly. “I was never an assistant, I prefer to do small things alone and step-by-step,” she says. Tabita says she benefits most from the expressiveness provided by her training in the arts: “I know fashion because it’s my passion, but the story of art is a big inspiration for fashion.”

Right now, Tabita, like many others, is excited by the inventiveness she sees in menswear, explaining that she finds more variety, moods, and vibes in this area, while many of the womenswear collections have become similar in their singular focus on sexiness. She’s looking forward to Milan Fashion Week, which should be back in full force for spring 2023. Gucci is a perennial favorite, and she’s a fan of what Martens is doing at Diesel. As for her own outfits, which tends to logo T-shirts and mini arm bags, she’s plans to have Balenciaga, Blumarine, and Mugler on rotation. Watch this space.
