Meet Danish Stylist Ras Baun Bartram Who Styled Kanye West’s Latest Video
There’s a changing of the guard in fashion and culture. Gen Z creators are pushing the conversation forward in ways both awe-inspiring and audacious. Our latest project, Youthquake, invites you to discover how these artists, musicians, actors, designers, and models are radically reimagining the future.
“The person who I am right now is the best version I’ve ever been of myself,” says Ras Baun Bartram over Zoom. Things are going well for this fashion-focsued Dane who styled Kanye West’s lastest video, “Heaven and Hell,” giving it a futuristic/apocalyptic twist that is relates back to the sleek, if not the androgynous, aspect of his own style.
Bartram’s confidence is deeply rooted—and hard-won. As a boy who preferred Barbie to G.I. Joe, and style to sports, he was considered a “weirdo.” As a teenager he was bullied for his fashion choices (think super-high buffalo platforms) and his androgynous appearance; he changed school four times. “Obviously there are consequences with sticking out as much as I did,” Bartram says. There was a year when he tried to fit in, but soon reverted to form. “I’ve always been super aware of who I am,” Bartram says. “I’ve always stood out from guys who were the same age as me.”
