Meera Chopra on ‘Super Woman’: Asexuality is unheard of due to shame and taboo – Exclusive – Times of India
Usually, prepping for a role involves meeting people with similar personalities or experiences. But Meera has not had that opportunity. She explains, “Asexuality is so unheard of and that’s because of the shame and taboo attached to it. It’s hard to find somebody who would open up and tell his or her story.” She’s found the silver lining to this opportunity though. She adds, “But that’s the beauty of the subject too, it’s so new that we could get more creative with it. Our movie can become a reference point to so many in the future.”
Apart from exploring all new feelings and emotions in director Zaigham Imam’s film, Meera also reveals that the experience of working with her co-stars Tigmanshu Dhulia and Poonam Dhillon was an enriching one. She says, “I’m working with stalwart actors. My on-screen mom and dad are both so seasoned that every frame in their company becomes a learning point.” Elaborating on her on-screen father’s positive influence, Meera says, “Tigmanshu sir is so subtle and real in his performance. I’ve learnt the calmness of acting from him. The way he switches to a Punjabi father is a delight to watch.”
Revealing her fanfare for her reel mother, she adds, “Poonam ji has been fantastic and alluring all through her career. She is still so stunning and brilliant in her craft, I just can’t fathom what it takes to have an innings like her.” She signs off, adding, “I just feel extremely lucky to have reel parents like them.”
