Max Fried joins Braves royalty with second career Gold Glove

Atlanta Braves pitcher Max Fried won the World Series this past week, and now takes home another Gold Glove award.

Max Fried has had quite the week. This past Tuesday, Fried started Game 6 of the World Series for the Atlanta Braves, and helped limit the Houston Astros to zero runs in six shutout innings, thus helping the team clinch their first World Series title since 1995. Not only that, but he celebrated at the team’s parade in Atlanta. How could things get better for the left-handed pitcher?

On Sunday, Fried’s was named the Gold Glove award winner for the second time in his career. He now joins Braves greats Greg Maddux (10) and Phil Niekro (5) as the only pitchers in franchise history to win multiple Gold Gloves.

Not bad company to be a part of.

Fried was named a finalist alongside Zach Davies of the Chicago Cubs and Zack Wheeler of the Philadelphia Phillies, but he ultimately received the most votes by National League managers and coaches. Fried’s won his first Gold Glove following the 2020 truncated season.

This season, Fried had a .978 fielding percentage, where he recorded eight putouts and committed just one error in 165.2 innings of work (28 starts), per his MLB.com page.

In addition to Fried, outfielder Adam Duvall was the only other player on the Braves to win a Gold Glove for this season. The St. Louis Cardinals dominated the awards ceremony, as they had five players earn Gold Gloves (Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, Tommy Edman, Harrison Bader, Tyler O’Neill), the most in MLB history.
