Masaba Gupta joins dad Vivian Richards’ 70th birthday celebration in Antigua – Times of India
“To celebrate dad’s 70th birthday in Antigua – a golf tournament (where he is happiest after a cricket field) for charity to raise money for healthcare workers in the region who have worked tirelessly through the pandemic,” Masaba had captioned the pictures. On her dad’s birthday on March 7, Masaba Gupta had shared a throwback picture with Vivian Richards and penned, “I’d like to think I’ve picked up some of most powerful qualities from my parents. My father is unrelenting, focused, has lived his life in the pursuit of greatness, defied the odds, turned around his fate and spent his whole life to become a mental and physical force to reckon with. ‘All you got is yourself ‘ – I cannot explain how true this last line is and I see it come to life every single day as I set out in my pursuit to be even half as great as you – mentally and physically. Happy 70th birthday papa.”
Masaba was born to Neena Gupta and West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards, when they were in a relationship. While Vivian Richards is married to Miriam, Neena Gupta tied the knot with Vivek Mehra in 2008. Speaking about how she broke the news of her marriage to Masaba, Neena Gupta had told ETimes, “Frankly, I didn’t have to tell her. Vivek and I were going around for 8/10 years; he used to come down to my house in Mumbai and I often used to go to Delhi. But yes, precisely speaking, when I told Masaba that I want to get married, she wanted to know why. I told her that marriage is important if you have to live in this society else you don’t get respect. And, Masaba understood me. Masaba is one person who will do anything for her mother’s happiness whether she likes it or not. So, I was not worried. I was just feeling a bit awkward in telling her that.”
