Marsai Martin’s Guide to Bold Blue Eyeliner
“The more I grow up, the more I have so much more passion for the things that I do—and creating is what I love to do the most,” says Marsai Martin. The actor initially rose to fame for her role in ABC’s hit sitcom Blackish where she co-starred with Tracee Ellis-Ross and Yara Shahidi at just 10 years old. Now 18, she is the youngest Hollywood executive producer and has her own production company. During her time on Blackish, the cast felt like a family—and she credits the experience for teaching her not only how to feel confident from a young age, but also taking care of her skin.
“My skin can be very sensitive sometimes and that’s why I try to use as many natural things for my skin as possible,” explains Martin, who will star in Paramount’s Fantasy Football, premiering November 25. She pairs these natural-based formulas with acne-fighting solutions in her regimen. Osea’s red algae mask and Cortizone ointment are her salves of choice, applied to the spots she’s most prone to breakouts. Quenching her skin with moisture is essential to complete her routine—reaching for a facial oil, Tatcha’s Dewy Skin Cream, eye cream, and Black Girl Sunscreen.
With her face glowing, Martin’s ready to begin her makeup. Brows are first—filling in her already full arches with a pencil and brow wax. Then, she begins her eye look, etching a black wing with a Tarte liner, and cleaning up any mistakes with a makeup wipe. “This is the reason why I do my base last because I want to make sure the eye look is exactly how I want it so I don’t mess anything else up,” she explains. As for her bold blue eyeliner, she precisely applies an electrifying pigment by Urban Decay with a tiny brush. Her eye look is enhanced by individual lash extensions and a coating of Chanel mascara. Onto her complexion, she buffs in Fenty Beauty’s contour sticks then mixes her foundation with a dollop of moisturizer. Rare Beauty’s sought-after blush and Stila’s glimmering highlighter provide a pop of color. Finally, she rounds out her look with a MAC lip liner duo (OG shades Chestnut and Cork, to be exact) followed by a nourishing balm. With that, she’s ready to take over the world.
