Marquette vs. Georgetown prediction and odds for Saturday, February 11 (Golden Eagles get back on track)

Marquette was served a slice of humble pie on Tuesday, losing at UConn by 15 in their first loss by more than five points this season.

Now, the Golden Eagles can take out their frustration against the worst team in the Big East, Georgetown, and continue on their path as one of the top teams in the conference. This is a rematch from Marquette’s 22-point romping of Georgetown in Milwaukee last month, can we expect a similar on the road?

Marquette vs. Georgetown prediction and pick

Marquette’s press defense is going to dictate the tempo in this game, but Georgetown was able to handle it by scoring 73 points while shooting 52% on two’s and 50% on three’s while taking 21 free throws. The team wasn’t competitive, but the offense was able to actually score at a fairly high clip.

The issue is that their defense won’t have a chance at stopping the high powered Marquette offense that hung 95 on them, including shooting 64% on two point tries. The team’s frenetic pace and fourth highest effective field goal percentage leads to a ton of points. Georgetown’s defense gives up a ton of open three’s and are bottom 20 in defending the perimeter, allowing opponents to shoot 38% from deep. They also turn opponents over at a bottom 40 so Marquette should have little issue in this one getting back on track after slowing up against UConn.

Georgetown has allowed opponents to score 80 or more in six of 14 conference games while Marquette has cleared that total in seven of 14. Given the Hoyas inability to stop Marquette, I think they are in for another efficient outing and I’ll take the over in a similar game script as the first.
