England international Marland Yarde confirmed he was the subject of a police investigation relating to what he described in a social media post last night as a ‘very serious offence’.
Sportsmail understands that after his arrest, Yarde has now left Sale Sharks, the club who employed him at the start of the year – but now he wants a return to the sport.
Via a statement on social media, Yarde has expressed his apologies to his ‘family and friends for the hurt and distress I have caused them’.

Yarde wrote on Twitter: ‘Although innocent of the crime alleged against me, I take full responsibility for having put myself in a situation where an allegation could be made against me,’
‘I am working hard to improve myself as a person using what the incident has taught and shown me.
‘I want to apologise to all my family and friends for the hurt and distress I have caused them.’
‘I look forward to resuming my career doing what I love which is playing rugby,’ Yarde said.

He’d scored scoring two tries this season in nine appearances for Sale Sharks this season and also had a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.
Prior to joining the Sharks in 2017, Yarde had previous stints at London Irish, Harlequins and spent time on loan at London Welsh.
He also won 13 caps for England between 2013 and 2017 – scoring 40 points in 13 appearances for the first-team.
