Texas beats Colgate 81-61 in first round of NCAA Tournament… as interim coach Rodney Terry continues to make case to permanently succeed Chris Beard following domestic violence arrest
Texas basketball remained hot after winning its conference tournament last weekend, cruising past Colgate 81-61 to reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Jabari Rice led the Longhorns in scoring with 23 points, while Marcus Carr and Dylan Disu chipped in with 17 points apiece.
The team has thrived with interim coach Rodney Terry at the helm, and posted a 19-7 record under him prior to the NCAA Tournament.
Terry took over on January 5 after former head coach Chris Bead was arrested for domestic violence.
Charges were dropped against Beard on February 15.

Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza said at the time that ‘our office has determined that the felony offense cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,’ after he was charged with assault by strangulation / suffocation – family violence in an alleged incident with his live-in fiancée, Randi Trew.
Beard has since resurfaced this month with the Ole Miss head coaching job.
Meanwhile, Texas will face the winner of the Texas A&M-Penn State matchup this weekend.
