Marcelo Burlon County of Milan Fall 2022 Menswear Collection

Currently in Patagonia catching up with his family, his property, and the artisanal beer brand he runs with his brother, Marcelo Burlon is hatching plans for a long-delayed return to the physical Milan menswear calendar come June. That season will mark the 10th anniversary of the County of Milan label, so Burlon said he is brewing up something special and open to all—watch this space.

In the meantime this collection continued to develop Burlon’s folk-sport dialect. Handsome new details included the fringing at the arms of t-shirts and seams of jeans. The floral translated onto fleece pants and puffas, while some of the luggage that was strewn liberally on top of his models was inspired by the hops plants that sustain his beer business and the wider economy in his corner of Argentina. Against that boozy inspiration was a fabrication that looked appropriately woozy: blurrily abstract jacquard denim jeans, bucket hats, and kimono-collar shirts that created a scattered jigsaw of County-logo shapes.

Burlon added: “This season the jersey is all organic, the cotton all sustainable and the polyester is all recycled. As I’ve said to you, it is complicated to move the company to sustainable solutions, but we are making good progress.” The designer’s signature commercial engine, the wing shoulder t-shirt, was delicately plucked by design into t-shirts featuring fewer feathers and loose suiting decorated with large examples too. Burlon said this was in response to increased requests for formal-ish menswear looks for red carpet events.

This lookbook was shot by Alessio Bolzoni, who Burlon recalled he used to work with over 15 years ago when one of his multi-hyphenate roles was at Rodeo magazine. He added: “So it made me look back and remember we talked to Kim Jones when he was at Umbro, Nigo for A Bathing Ape, Luke Meier at Supreme, Jun Takahashi…” And so the wheel keeps turning.
