Manufacturing slows a tad, but is still expanding: Survey – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Activity in the country’s manufacturing sector slowed to a three-month low but remained in expansionary mode for the 15th consecutive month on the back of robust new orders and rising production while input cost inflation eased to a 23-month low, a survey showed on Monday.
Posting 55. 1 in September, the S&P Global India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) was in expansion territory for the 15th month in arow. The headline figure slipped from 56. 2 in August, though pointed to a solid rate of growth. The 50-point mark separates expansion from contraction. The survey is compiled from responses to questionnaires sent to purchasing managers in a panel of around 400 manufacturers.
To accommodate higher sales and greater output needs, firms hired extra workers, the results of the survey showed.
Business sentiment improved for third month in a row in September, reaching its highest level in over seven-and ahalf years. Marketing efforts, expanded client bases and gre-ater customer enquiries supported positive forecasts surrounding the year-ahead outlook for production, according to the survey. “The PMI data shows Indian manufacturing remains in good shape,” said Pollyanna De Lima, economics associate director at S&P Global Market Intelligence.
