Manisha Koirala recalls being ‘fired at’ by cinematographer Ashok Mehta for rejecting Bombay: You are an idiot if you refuse Mani Ratnam’s film – Times of India

Manisha Koirala has made a mark not just in the Hindi film industry but down south as well with her acting prowess. She has given several hits including filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s Bombay in her career spanning over three decades.
However, there was a point where Manisha was unsure about playing the role of a mother in Bombay. It was that time when she was fired at by cinematographer Ashok Mehta for refusing the film initially.

“I didn’t want to do Bombay, people had warned me against doing the role of a mother, but cinematographer Ashok Mehta ‘fired’ at me saying ‘do you know the level of good work Mani Ratnam has done? You are an idiot if you refuse his film.’ That jolted me, and mom and me went to Chennai, and did a look test. I am really happy I did Bombay,” Manisha said in her recent interview with a YouTube channel.

During the same interview, Manisha has also spoken about working with Rajinikanth in Tamil film Baba and how it destroyed her career in the south. She said that after the film terribly flopped at the box office, she stopped getting film offers.

On the work front, Manisha was last seen in Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada that also starred Kriti Sanon. She will be next seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi.
