Manish Sisodia writes letter from jail questioning PM’s qualifications

Jailed former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Friday wrote an open letter questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational qualifications and underlined the need for a more educated person to occupy the high office.

Taking forward Aam Aadmi Party’s campaign against Modi over his education, Sisodia wrote the letter from jail which was posted on microblogging site Twitter by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. Sisodia referred to the progress in science and technology globally and artificial intelligence. He added it was disheartening to listen to the Prime Minister talk about using the gas from drains for making tea. Sisodia said when the Prime Minister says that planes flying above the clouds can escape the radars, he becomes a laughingstock. “Children studying in schools and colleges make fun of him,” wrote Sisodia.

“Today’s youth is aspirational. He wants to do something. He is looking for an opportunity. He wants to conquer the world. He wants to do something in the field of science and technology. Can a Prime Minister with poor educational qualifications have the capability to inspire the youth?” asked Sisodia in his letter.

The AAP has altered its strategy of not taking on the Prime Minister directly. The last one week has seen the party directly attacking Modi and questioning his educational credentials. The party has doubled down on its campaign over the matter even as the Gujarat high court last week set aside a 2016 order of the Central Information Commissioner (CIC) asking information be provided to Kejriwal about Modi’s university degrees under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
