Manipur violence: Amit Shah says those behind violence will not be spared

While speaking at an event in Guwahati, Shah said that he would visit Manipur for three days after a few days and talk to the people of the state to maintain peace.

His statements came laying the foundation stone of the tenth campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) at Changsari in Assam’s Kamrup district.

“I assure on behalf of Modi government that justice will be done and we will not spare those involved in violence. “

“My appeal to all brothers and sisters in the state to bring back normalcy that existed before. Since last six years, we have all moved forward together peacefully. There was not a single bandh, not a single blockade. Today, we will solve the schism (vikhvaawad) which happened because of one order by a court, through dialogue, conversation and peace. It is the policy of the Narendra Modi government that injustice does not happen to anyone.”

“The Centre will ensure that justice is delivered to all those who suffered in the clashes in the state, but people must hold dialogue to ensure peace,” Shah said. Further adding, he said, “But peace can be brought only by the people of Manipur. I urge all to shed disbelief and hold talks with the state and Centre to find road to peace.”

His statement comes even as the northeastern state saw another death as a fresh violence between suspected militants and a group of people in an area bordering Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts in strife-torn Manipur.

Opposition parties have accused the BJP government in the state of having failed to maintain peace and order and said that thousands of people in the state have been rendered homeless.

Taking a dig at Shah, Congress general secretary slammed him and said the Union Home Minister goes all the way to Guwahati today, but does not deem it fit to visit Imphal when Manipur has been burning for 22 days.

In a tweet, he wrote, “This is the same Union Home Minister who held 16 rallies and 15 road shows in Karnataka, but cannot find time for the people of Manipur who are suffering a lot due to the ideology and politics of the so-called Double Engine Sarkar.”

Meanwhile, the authorities in Manipur clamped curfew for 24 hours in the area and reduced the curfew relaxation hours in several other districts.

Meanwhile, the house of Manipur PWD Minister Konthoujam Govindas in Bishnupur district was vandalised on Wednesday by a group of people claiming that the government in the violence-hit state was not doing enough to protect locals from militants belonging to another community, an official said.

In its status report, the government said a total of 318 relief camps have been opened where more than 47,914 persons have been given relief. It said 626 FIRs have been registered.
