The umpteenth riff on the corset by ManéMané was a kind of top that no longer oppresses the body and falls freely under its own weight. The label’s creative director Miguel Becer imagined the character of “a young person, interested in fashion and peculiar garments, who has fun dressing up while mixing a cocktail of tradition and folklore with an eye to the future.”
This new twist included the use of techniques such as the ‘picado,’ an appliqué method consisting of overlapping several layers of fabric in a triangular shape before cutting different motifs. This time, those motifs were floral, playing with colors and giving dimension to preexisting motifs. Shoes and boots, while there are no current plans to produce them for sale, had great importance in the collection (and even their own name). “The so-called ‘workshop floors’ reformulate all the waste materials: remnants came together to form a texture that resulted in the lining for shoes and boots,” said Becer.
His proposal was presented with a performance in which seven non-binary models presented themselves to the audience at the top of elevated platforms, all covered with colorful carpets and arranged diagonally. Techno music played in the background but the figures didn’t move, not even a gesture. They kept their heads constantly up: they appeared confident in an apocalyptic world where everything we knew has no place anymore, as though they were facing a new era.
