Manchester United ‘DROP their pursuit of Mason Mount after third offer at £55m is rejected
Manchester United ‘DROP their pursuit of Mason Mount after £55m third offer is rejected by Chelsea in an impasse… with Brighton’s £80m-rated Moises Caicedo now their top target’
- United had seen two bids rejected and do not want to meet the asking price
- The offer remains on the table if Chelsea would be willing to lower the demands
- The Red Devils will sign one midfielder but are unlikely to pursue both players
Manchester United will hit pause on the pursuit of Mason Mount to focus on signing Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, according to a report.
United have seen two bids for the England midfielder rejected and are to to turn their attention away from the deal to look elsewhere.
According to The Times, United consider Chelsea’s asking price unrealistic and will now walk away from negotiations.
The Stamford Bridge club have made a counter proposal of £65million to United and offered to hold face-to-face talks to find a resolution that will suit all parties.
United’s latest offer comprised of a £50million guaranteed payment plus £5million in add-ons and was received by Chelsea on Friday afternoon.

Erik ten Hag’s side are keen to sign the midfielder and the offer remains on the table if Chelsea lower their demands
While the bid was rejected, Mail Sport understands that the offer remains on the table if Chelsea are willing to change their minds.
The move to explore alternative options has come incase that doesn’t happen, with United at an impasse in negotiations.
They are unlikely to sign both Mount and Caicedo, though a deal for one midfielder will certainly be done this transfer window.
As it stands there is little hope of Mount signing a new contract at Chelsea, despite the fact that Mauricio Pochettino – who officially starts work as new Chelsea boss next week – wants Mount to stay and play a major role in his team next season.
But with Chelsea’s primary goal this summer to offload players following last season’s £600million spending spree, Blues officials are understood to be coming round to the idea that finding a middle ground with United this summer is the best solution for all parties.
United will instead try to sign Moises Caicedo who is valued at £80million by Brighton
Caicedo, meanwhile, is expected to leave Brighton after manager Roberto de Zerbi admitted he will likely move to a bigger club.
He has been monitored by both Arsenal and Chelsea, but United will now reportedly enter negotiations as they look to improve on last season’s Champions League finish.
Brighton are seeking £80million for the Ecuadorian, with a £60million bid from Chelsea rejected two week ago.
Arsenal are also monitoring his situation but would prefer to sign Declan Rice despite interest from Manchester City.
