Manchester City forward Jack Grealish could be out for at least a month due to injury in training

Jack Grealish could be out for a MONTH after suffering an injury in training with the £100m man at risk of missing the Manchester derby AND their Champions League last-16 tie, but Pep Guardiola is adamant he won’t be absent for so long

  • Jack Grealish could be out for at least a month following an injury in training
  • Pep Guardiola has played down talks of his star being out for that amount of time
  • Grealish would miss clashes against Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United
  • The 26-year-old has failed to live up to the hype after arriving from Aston Villa

Pep Guardiola played down talk of Jack Grealish’s shin injury being bad enough to keep him out for a month, with the Manchester City boss hopeful his £100million man can travel to Lisbon this week.

Record signing Grealish struggled with his shin while at Aston Villa and the 26-year-old England international missed the trip to Norwich because of a slight recurrence of that issue.

Scans will confirm the extent of the damage but amid rumours of Grealish missing the next month, Guardiola said he hopes he’ll be fit for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Sporting Lisbon.

‘After the game against Brentford, the training he had, he struggled and was uncomfortable and was not able today,’ Guardiola said after their 4-0 win in which Raheem Sterling stepped up by scoring a perfect hat-trick. ‘We will see.’

Grealish has netted just twice in 17 appearances for Manchester City following his arrival from Aston Villa last summer in a £100million deal, which was the biggest in British football history.

‘Jack Grealish is injured. He has the same [problem] that he had last season with Villa’, Guardiola said before the victory over Norwich.

‘He trained after the game against Brentford, we did a test but he was not ready today, but hopefully [he will be] next Tuesday.’

City take on Sporting in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday in Portugal before the return leg on March 9, three days after the Manchester derby against Ralf Rangnick’s United.

Guardiola will be hopeful of his star’s return in time for the matches next month, but will not rush Grealish back, and instead remain cautious given his previous injuries.

The 26-year-old picked up a nagging shin problem last season that forced him to miss 12 matches for Villa, and it looks as though it is a similar problem this time round.

Guardiola’s men extended their lead at the summit of the Premier League to 12 points with victory over Norwich, but Liverpool can close the gap to nine again should they defeat Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.
