Man arrested for posing as police officer and extorting money from Bulandshahr traders

Bulandshahr police on Monday got hold of a man named Soyab Khan who extorted money from several traders by giving them the impression that he was a cop.

While investigating the case, the police found out out that Khan belonged to a place called Bhajanpur near Delhi but was based in Bulandshahr for a while.

Soyab paid Rs 500 to buy a formal police uniform from a store, then adorned it and pretended to be a cop. The uniform played an important role in helping him make the traders believe that he is a sub-inspector working with the Delhi police.

Once caught, Soyab confessed to his crimes and explained to the police, in detail, how he harassed and extorted money from the traders.

He said he was largely targeting shop owners and traders in Uttar Pradesh. To complete his getup and make it look authentic, Soyab had attached a name tag bearing his name on the uniform. He was arrested on Monday and sent to jail. The Bulandshahr police shared the details of this con man’s arrest on its official Twitter handle.

Addressing the public via video, Shlok Kumar K, Senior Superintendent of Police, stated that Soyab was spotted by a police squad while carrying out patrolling in an area named Khurja Nagar. The squad felt there was something suspicious about Khan and decided to interrogate him. After being confronted by the police, Soyab became nervous and revealed the truth.
