Mamata Banerjee to meet Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar in Mumbai

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee will visit Mumbai on Tuesday to meet her Maharashtra counterpart Uddhav Thackeray and National Congress Party supremo Sharad Pawar amid attempts by the Trinamool Congress chief to form ‘a strong anti-BJP force’ before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Confirming her Mumbai visit, party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said Banerjee was a strong opposition face against the BJP.

Banerjee is also likely to visit Rajasthan in the first week of December after expanding the Trinamool’s footprints in Goa, UP, Meghalaya, Tripura and Assam. The Trinamool is planning to fight the upcoming Goa assembly polls. The party is also trying its luck in the ongoing Tripura municipal elections.

Recently, the Trinamool has been successful in roping in several ‘disillusioned’ Congress leaders into its fold including former Congress chief minister of Goa, Luizinho Faleiro. In Meghalaya, 12 of the 18 Congress MLAs joined the Trinamool, making it the principal opposition in the state assembly.

In a bid to unite the opposition parties against the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Banerjee is in talks with various opposition parties following her victory in the West Bengal assembly elections earlier this year.

During her two-day Mumbai visit, the West Bengal chief minister is also likely to meet some business heads for investment in the state.
