Magnum Photos – Colors, Places, Faces
René Burri
“What counts is putting the intensity that you yourself have experienced into the picture. Otherwise, it is just a document.”
As a photojournalist, René Burri’s focus is on the socio-political aspect of architecture and the people who inhabit or use it.
Brasilia, the new Brazilian capital in the process of being built, supplied Burri with the material he needed for an epic story, as well as providing fertile soil for cultivating an artistic style of his own.
With these photographs, Burri also pays tribute to his friend, architect Luis Barragán, with whom he spent time in Mexico, reflecting his spirit, capturing the essence of his work, and recreating the sense of peace and contemplation that permeate his creations.
Bruno Barbey
“It is very difficult to photograph in Morocco. Photos must either be taken swiftly, with all the attendant risks, or only after long periods of infinite patience. Such was the price of these images… The memory of Morocco can only be captured with respect.”
In Morocco Bruno Barbey always felt a sense of freedom and harmony with his environment since being born there and spending his first twelve years between Salé, Rabat, Marrakesh and Tangiers.
He was attracted by the slower rhythm of life and by artisanal and architectural traditions that remain almost untouched in modern times. Whatever the difficulties inherent to working there, he chose to return time and again, often staying for long periods and produced a remarkable body of work about the country, its people, and its culture.
With this exhibition, Giorgio Armani supports the projects of Save the Children, the international Organisation which has been working for over 100 years to save children at risk and guarantee their future, aimed at fighting the educational poverty and school dropout.
