macbook pro: Apple reportedly adding this classic MacBook Pro model to ‘vintage’ list – Times of India

Apple is reportedly planning to add another MacBook to its vintage list of products this month. According to an internal memo obtained by MacRumors, the tech giant will be adding the mid 2012 model of the 13-inch MacBook Pro to its vintage products list on December 31. Apple regularly adds devices to the vintage list that it has stopped distributing for sale more than 5 and less than 7 years ago. However, Apple Stores and Apple Authorised Service Providers continue to offer repairs for vintage products for up to seven years.
The MacBook Pro that that company is reportedly planning to add in the vintage list was launched in June 2012 and it was the last Mac with a built-in CD/DVD drive sold by Apple. The device was available for purchase until October 2016. It was sold as a lower-priced option along with the thinner 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. The laptop continued to receive support from Apple till 2020. The tech giant dropped support for the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the macOS Big Sur.
The company has also reportedly added the iPhone 6 Plus in the same list. The smartphone was launched by the company in September 2014 along with the iPhone 6. While the company discontinued the iPhone 6 Plus in 2016, the iPhone 6 was available in a few regions until 2018. The iPhone 6 Plus was one of the most popular smartphones the company has ever sold, thanks to the larger 5.5-inch display.
Apart from vintage products, there is something called obsolete products as well. Obsolete products, on the other hand, are those that were discontinued more than 7 years ago. The big difference is that vintage products do get hardware service from Apple whereas obsolete products get no support at all. Apple routinely updates this list and you can check the same on Apple’s support website.
