Lynn Ban’s Soiree Celebrates Her Caftan Venture with Friends
Lynn Ban has lots of fabulous friends. That was apparent at her mini soiree at Indochine late last week when she launched a party for her venture into designing resort. (There was a film crew for an upcoming show). It was a caftan central, which included a men’s capsule collection. According to Ban, the collection was dreamed up pre-pandemic in collaboration with Como Resorts. (You’ll see the Como Group’s make a cameo on Ban’s page, which includes luxury hotels in Turks and Caicos, London, and Italy). Ban noted, while dressed in a glittering lavender robe of her own (along with matching metallic Brian Atwood platform heels), that she is following the Azzedine Alaïa ethos of design and simply releasing her collection when she wants to. “I don’t want to be fixed to any schedule. It is a labor of love,” she says. “It is a resort collection for when you go on vacation, and you want to buy something fabulous that isn’t plain Jane.”
After all, plain Jane is far from how anyone would describe Ban. “Fabulous” was a keyword at the event and was what many guests, ranging from Tina Leung to Ezra William, described her as. After all, Ban has a glittering reputation in the industry. She came onto the design scene in the 2010s with her carat bedazzled jewelry, some of her most popular being gem-encrusted coil shapes in the form of earrings or cuffs. The Singaporean designer’s sparkling creations were carried at Dover Street Market. Her celebrity clients were megawatt, including Beyonce, Cara Delevingne, and Rihanna. In fact, Rihanna’s stylist and creative director, Jahleel Weaver, who first put the Badgal in Ban’s jewelry, was celebrating and spoke the world of Ban. “Lynn has always supported me at the beginning of my career and has always done amazing things,” says Weever. “I’m excited for what she is going to do in the future.”
Ban’s style is infectious. And just like her enthusiasm, which is contagious, so is her love for all things glam. Her Instagram is a runway in itself in which she models a sequin-slathered jumpsuit by Halpern in London, a Schiaparelli trompe l’oeil bust in the Maldives, or a rounded Comme des Garçons that is shaped like an ice cream scoop while eating desserts. It’s outre glamour at its finest. Of course, her own look was channeled into Ban’s collection. Models wore caftans, sometimes off the shoulder in vibrant greens or metallics. (Ban noted that they were deadstock vintage fabrics.) Men were in djellabas and board shorts, which Ban described as “ease and fun!” Everything here was something that was easy to imagine the well-heeled Ban wearing. Guests agreed, too. “She has the best taste in everything. Everything she puts her mind to, she does very, very well,” said Leung, who had just gotten off a plane from Paris. “Everyone needs a dash of Lynn in their lives!” Now we all can.
