LSU football lands another huge QB transfer to jumpstart Brian Kelly era

Former Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels is transferring to LSU football to help kickoff the Brian Kelly era with a giant QB competition.

The LSU quarterback room has experienced twists and turns of the last few months but the biggest was apparently yet to come.

On Sunday, Pete Thamel of ESPN reported that Jayden Daniels has committed to transfer to the Tigers.

Daniels has served as Arizona State’s signal-caller since he was a true freshman in 2019. He won the starting job coming out of camp and never looked back. In three seasons, he maintained a passer rating of 143.4 with 32 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 62.4 percent of his passes. He has also rushed for 1,288 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Jayden Daniels transfer: Will he be the LSU starting quarterback?

Daniels will make the LSU quarterback competition that much more interesting going into the 2022 season. The Tigers were all set to have veteran Myles Brennan battle it out with talented youngsters Garrett Nussmeier and five-star freshman Walker Howard.

Brennan was the likely favorite from that group but Daniels will instantly change the dynamic. He’s a three-year starter at another Power 5 program. For a time he was considered one of the best quarterbacks in the Pac-12. He’ll arrive in Baton Rouge expecting to take on the starting job.

It’ll all come down to how he does in the competition against the others. Fortunately for the Tigers he will be eligible for spring ball, so the evaluations can begin right away.

At his best, Daniels can make life difficult for opposing defenses thanks to his calm demeanor and running ability. However, he has struggled with accuracy and regressed in 2021 with 10 interceptions.
