LSU dominates Kentucky after seven-hour rain delay

A seven-hour rain delay was the only thing to slow down LSU in its Super Regional against Kentucky on Saturday.

The Tigers won 14-0, jumping out to an early lead on a Tre’ Morgan first-inning home run.

Game 1 of the best-of-three series was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT and was initially pushed back to 7:00 p.m. CT due to lightning in the area.

The delay was extended another two hours before the first pitch arrived shortly after 9:00 p.m. CT.

Fans stuck around despite the long delay, which in truth just gave them more time to tailgate.

When the game started, they saved their biggest boos not for Kentucky, but for a public service announcement.

LSU’s bats were hot despite the long wait, blasting six home runs.
Morgan and Tommy White hit two home runs apiece and were a combined 7-for-10 against the Wildcats. White’s second home run was a moonshot and may have caused property damage as it soared over the scoreboard in left field and out of Alex Box Stadium.

Pitcher Paul Skenes, a potential No. 1 pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, was dominant in 7.2 innings pitched. He allowed four hits and stuck out nine batters.

He has 188 strikeouts this season, 14 shy of LSU’s Ben McDonald (202 in 1989) for most in a single season in program history.

The Tigers are a win away from returning to the College World Series in Omaha for the first time since 2017.

LSU looks to close the series out on Sunday, with a scheduled start time of 5:00 p.m. CT.

The forecast in Baton Rouge calls for a minimal chance of rain, so chances are Game 2 will start on time and not at midnight.

Regardless of when it begins, LSU showed on Saturday it will be ready.
