But something or the other always goes wrong.
Rishabh and I met via a matrimonial website and other parents were very pleased with our union. I had a boyfriend in the early years of my college days, but about it. I was pretty truthful to my husband about my past, and once we told each other about everything, we closed that gate. But years later down the line, I came across some of my husband’s belongings that shook me to my core. As I searched for some important medical documents for him on the go, I found a small black box in the corner of his wardrobe, packed away safely. My first instinct was to leave that aside because I trust my husband. However, I still opened it. And there lay a few photos of my husband in his younger years with a beautiful woman whom I had never seen before. She looked delicate and serene; she’s a beauty. I instantly got jealous. Did my husband have another woman in his life?
That night, I confronted my husband. He looked shocked. But instead of fighting over why I went through his things, he calmly said that it was his ex in those pictures. He never mentioned an ex to me before! How ridiculous! But I didn’t get angry. I just asked him why did he keep those pictures till now to which he replied, “it is a memory that I never want to get rid of. Don’t think that I don’t love you but please respect my decision.” He left me with no words to spare.
Even though he reassured me that it was probably nothing, the incident kept haunting me. I couldn’t sit still until I knew what the story was behind these pictures. And so, in the wee morning hours, I started stalking my husband’s social media profiles. And after searching for almost an hour through his old posts, I found one of his pictures up on his Facebook profile. The woman was in several of his posts back then and I could make out that they were in a relationship back then. But why didn’t my husband tell me about this? Weren’t we honest to each other enough?
And so, I decided to secretly ask my husband’s best friend about this woman. He seemed shocked at first that I wanted to know about her, but later he revealed that my husband and that woman were lovers from college. Their families didn’t agree to their marriage and so, they had to tearfully part ways. I can fathom the hurt my husband must have felt, but I wish he couldn’ve told me all about this, rather than keeping this a secret. And no matter how big or small a secret is, trusting some one after such an incident isn’t easy.
