Looking for the Cool Girls? They Were All at LaQuan Smith’s After-Party
Last night, an arsenal of latex thigh-high boots, glittering heels, and jubilantly colored coats ascended the marble steps of Lower Manhattan’s Down Town Association Club. The venue, a Romanesque revival building, originally served as the backdrop to financiers and power brokers in New York City. But, following the LaQuan Smith show, a young, hot, fashion-forward crowd eager to celebrate the designer’s triumphant collection breathed new life into the legacy social club.
In partnership with Nordstrom and Saucy Satana, the event was one of contrasts—ultra-contemporary getups in a historical setting. Furs were perched against the white marble. A sea of provocative catsuits stormed the old-school wooden bar. A “LaQuan Hearts Nordstrom” neon sign glowed right next to an old-school telephone booth—an ideal photo-op spot. “The energy from the show obviously carried over to the after-party,” a model told Vogue while sipping on on a slightly spicy Don Julio cocktail.
As more and more energetic guests poured into the event space, DJ sets by Mazurbate, Dirty Finger, Rich Medina, and Mister Cee powered the room. A thunderous cheering ensued when Saucy Santana stepped into the space. Usually, at this point of fashion week, attendees have grown weary from running around the city. But, proven by the evening’s guest echoing Santana’s “I want Chanel 9 boots,” the high energy of good fashion and a fun crowd was found alive and well.
