Looking for a Christmas Cocktail? Try This Holiday Negroni From the World’s Best Bar
This isn’t a saying, but I personally would like to make it one: the best way to spread holiday cheer is through cheers. After all, what’s the festive season without sipping a Christmas cocktail by the fire, or indulging in a pre- or post-dinner libation?
And since any old mixed drink won’t do—this is the holidays, you need something seasonal and, well, strong—Vogue asked The Connaught Bar for their thoughts. The official best bar in the world responded with the recipe for a holiday Negroni, complete with cocoa nibs. Here’s what makes it so delicious for December: “For the festive season, we wanted to twist the Negroni to remind us of convivial moments with family and friends back in Italy, using flavors that are typical of our gastronomic tradition,” Agostino Perrone, Director of Mixology at The Connaught Bar, tells Vogue. “Raisins and orange are reminiscent of Italian Christmas desserts and are also widely available, making this take on the Negroni a simple, customizable serve for everyone’s festive occasion. The fresh and persistent flavors of orange and cocoa husk add a velvety and mouthful texture to make your special celebration even more memorable.”
Below, a recipe for their Christmas cocktail—the Negroni Code.
Negroni Code
Ingredients
½ oz Connaught Bar Gin
½ oz Bitter
½ oz Sweet vermouth
½ oz Aromatic water*
1 drop of Balsamic Vinegar
1 Orange peel for garnish
*Aromatic water: infuse cocoa nibs in hot water with raisins and orange peel. Let the infusion rest for 1 hour, cool down and filter into a bottle to be stored. Add 17 o of hot water, then add ½ teaspoon of cocoa nibs, ¼ cup of orange peels and ⅓ cup of raisins. Let it infuse for an hour then strain into a bottle. Keep refrigerated.
Stir all ingredients with ice and pour in a rocksglass over a cube of ice. Garnish with an orange peel.
