Liverpool star Mo Salah admits he ‘doesn’t know’ if he will stay at Anfield

‘It’s not all about money… when I leave Liverpool it will be really sad’: Mohamed Salah admits he ‘DOESN’T KNOW’ if he will stay at Anfield with just 12 months left on his contract and no deal signed after months of talks

  • Mohamed Salah will be out of his Liverpool contract at the end of next season
  • Egypt star and the club have negotiated a potential new deal for months
  • But the impasse over a contract extension for Egyptian is yet to be resolved
  • And the Liverpool star revealed he may leave Anfield once his deal expires

Mohamed Salah has offered his strongest suggestion yet that he is heading towards the exit door at Liverpool.

The Egyptian has developed into one of the best players in the world since joining from Roma five years ago, a bonafide Kop hero and a crucial cog in Jurgen Klopp’s side which is currently on course for an unprecedented quadruple.

Salah’s future, however, appears surprisingly unclear with the impasse over a new contract still to be resolved after months of negotiations.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, the 29-year-old revealed remaining at Anfield was far from a foregone conclusion but insisted money would not be a motivating factor should he decide to leave.

‘I don’t know, I have one year left,’ he said.

‘I think the fans know what I want, but in the contract it’s not everything about the money at all. So I don’t know, I can’t tell you exactly. I have one year left and the fans know what I want.’

Regardless of the timing of his departure from Liverpool, the two-time African Player of the Year admitted leaving Anfield will not be easy.

‘To play in that atmosphere and to see the fans always behind me […] I have banners in the stadium […] and they’re always singing my song,’ he added.

‘It’s going to be a really sad moment.”

While he admitted his future at Liverpool remained uncertain, Salah was also clear he wanted to remain at the club for as long as possible and help the Reds win more silverware.

‘This club means a lot to me – I’ve enjoyed my football here more than anywhere, I gave the club everything and everybody saw that,’ he continued.

‘I’ve had a lot of unbelievable moments here, winning trophies, individual goals, individual trophies. It’s like a family here.’

Since returning to the Premier League in 2017, the former Chelsea player has won six major trophies – including the Premier League title and the Champions League – and has scored 155 goals in 245 appearances in all competitions.

The tally puts Salah ninth on the list of Liverpool’s all-time top scorers, but he is still some way behind Ian Rush’s record of 346 goals. The Egyptian, however, suggested he had the Welshman in his sight adding that ‘hopefully before I go, I will be the first one.’

Asked whether speculations over his future may be a source of distraction at such a delicate stage of the season, the current Premier League top scorer replied: ‘I’m not worried, I don’t let myself worry about something. The season didn’t finish yet, so let’s finish it in the best possible way – that’s the most important thing. Then in the last year, we’re going to see what’s going to happen.’
