Liverpool: Harvey Elliott, Fabio Carvalho join Anthony Elanga, Amad Diallo on Golden Boy shortlist

Liverpool pair Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho are among the most eye-catching names on the Golden Boy 2022 shortlist.

The annual award is given to a top-tier player in Europe under the age of 21 for their performances over a calendar year.

There were 10 nominees to the 100-man shortlist from the Premier League, with Manchester United duo Anthony Elanga and Amad Diallo also making the cut.

But there was no representation from traditional English heavyweights Arsenal or Chelsea.

Wolves had two players nominated, with £35m signing Fabio Silva and Dutch defender Ki-Jana Hoever on the list.

Promising talents in Tottenham’s Pape Matar Sarr and Manchester City’s Yan Couto, who spent last season on loan at Metz and Braga respectively, were named as well.

Teenage Brighton midfielder Kacper Kozlowski and Leeds forward Joe Gelhardt completed the English-based players on the list.

Barcelona wonderkid Pedri won the award last year after an astonishing 12 months for club and country.

Although Pedri was nominated again, traditionally a new winner is named every year.

A trio of midfielders in Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga and new Bayern Munich signing from Ajax, Ryan Gravenberch are among the favourites for this year’s gong.

Pedri is joined by four other wonderkids from the Catalan side, with Ansu Fati, Gavi, Nico Gonzalez and Alejandro Balde also representing the La Masia academy.

Camavinga, however, is the sole representative of Real Madrid, with Valencia’s Yunus Musah and Villarreal’s Yeremi Pino the other standout names in Spain.

In Italy, Roma trio Felix Afena-Gyan, Edoardo Bove and Nicola Zalewski, Premier League target Aaron Hickey of Bologna, and defender Destiny Udogie (Udinese) are the most high-profile starlets.

From the Bundesliga, Bayern, Dortmund and RB Leipzig dominate, with 14 of the 21 nominees from those three clubs – Josko Gvardiol, Youssoufa Moukoko and Jamal Musiala particularly promising prospects.

In France, Lyon trio Rayan Cherki, Malo Gusto and Castello Lukeba and exciting attackers Mohamed-Ali Cho (Angers), Jeremy Doku, Kamaldeen Sulemana (both Rennes) and Newcastle target Hugo Ekitike (Reims) are among those to make the list.
