Liverpool are closing in on their first summer signing with the club hopeful of sealing a deal for Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister this week, Mail Sport understands.
Contact between both parties is thought to have taken place and with the midfielder keen to work with Jurgen Klopp, the process is expected to be a smooth one.
The exact value of the move is not currently known despite the release clause in his contract, although the final fee could reach as much as £60million.
World Cup winner Mac Allister signed fresh terms at the Amex Stadium last October, extending a deal that would otherwise have run down at the end of this season.
Manchester United were thought to have been keen on signing the playmaker but were forced to move on after Mac Allister expressed a desire to move to Anfield.

The 24-year-old’s representatives are in England with discussions ongoing.
It is expected that Liverpool will splash more cash this summer even after landing the 24-year-old, with Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone and Romeo Lavia among their other targets.
According to L’Equipe, the club have begun negotiations with Ligue 1 side Nice over a potential deal for Thuram, with funds having been freed up by outgoings.
Indeed, Klopp is keen to strengthen his midfield after James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left the club as free agents.
Jude Bellingham, however, is Real Madrid bound.
Liverpool are exploring a number of options for the position and have discussed the possibility of signing Kone from Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 22-year-old moved to the Bundesliga in January 2021 and has since gone on to make 60 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

Lavia, meanwhile, impressed for Southampton despite their relegation.
Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi openly admitted Mac Allister and his similarly influential team-mate Moises Caicedo were expected to leave this summer.
Speaking after his side’s 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa on the final day of the season, he said: ‘I think that can be the last game of Alexis and Moises, I’m really sorry.
‘They are two great people and two great players.’
‘The policy of Brighton is like this,’ De Zerbi then added. ‘I think it’s right they can leave, can change teams and play in a level higher.
‘We are ready. We have to find others big players to play without Alexis and Moises.’
