EXCLUSIVE: BBC, ITV, Amazon and Disney+ scramble for rights to documentary following the Lionesses ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, as Sarina Wiegman’s England hunt a first World title after winning Euros last year

A documentary on the stars of the Lionesses Euro-winning campaign has been commissioned ahead of this summer’s World Cup, Sportsmail understands.

England will be looking to become world champions for the first time after their historic Euros victory on home soil last year.

Fans will be able to follow the journeys of a number of players heading to Australia and New Zealand in a unique series.

Several episodes will air before the World Cup starts, with the remaining shows released once the competition is complete.

A host of networks are believed to be scrambling to air the show with BBC, ITV, Amazon and Disney+ all interested in taking the series.

POW TV STUDIOS, the production company behind bringing this together, are set to partner with Reese Witherspoon’s production house, Hello Sunshine, in an all female line-up.

The series will follow players in the build up to the tournament and take a behind the scenes look into the lives of some of the top names in the women’s game.

It is understood that POW TV STUDIOS lead Rosemary Reed, who previously directed and produced The Driving Force series, worked with Marshall Communications and Motion Content Group to put the concept together.

England will be one of the favourites at this summer’s World Cup with the team yet to lose under manager Sarina Wiegman.

The Lionesses are back in action this week with the first of their Arnold Clark Cup fixtures against South Korea on Thursday. They will also face Italy and Belgium before taking on Brazil at Wembley in the Finalissima in April.
