Leicester step up bid to sign £3m Tete amid doubts Lyon will take up their option to sign winger

Leicester City have stepped up their bid to sign Brazilian winger Mateus Tete in a £3million deal. 

Tete is with Lyon after his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk was suspended due to the Russian invasion. 

Lyon have an option to sign Tete but it is unclear whether the French club, who are having a turbulent season, intend to activate it.

Leicester have scouted Tete before as they sought to fill a problem position on the right side of their attack.

He has played 17 times in Ligue 1, producing six goals and three assists. He is also left-footed, enabling him to cut in from the flank to score or create.

The struggling Foxes will add more players to their squad this month after signing Danish left-back Victor Kristiansen for £17million from FC Copenhagen – yet they are not the only club showing interest in Tête. 

Lyon have an option to sign Tete but it is unclear whether the French club intend to activate it 

Both Everton and Nottingham Forest are targeting a wide player and Tête is also on their list.

Leicester are also keen to sign a central defender, with Stoke’s Harry Souttar thought to be a priority.

Boss Brendan Rodgers said: ‘We need improvement in the squad to bring in players who are technically better.’

Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanprabha added: ‘Adding to the squad during the current transfer window has been a high priority for us.’
