Lawrence Okolie DEFENDS his world cruiserweight title against David Light
Lawrence Okolie DEFENDS his world cruiserweight title against David Light despite a valiant effort from the Kiwi, with the Sauce winning by unanimous decision despite not quite being at his best in Manchester
Lawrence Okolie has defended his world cruiserweight title by unanimous decision against David Light.
The judges had it 116-112, 119-108, 117-110 after a tough 12 rounds for both fighters at the AO Arena.
Okolie hadn’t fought since last February and it did show at times, as the Brit looked a little tentative in throwing his right hand and didn’t fully take control until the last few rounds.
In truth, Light offered very little threat to the world champion, but he did show a phenomenal chin once Okokie started to click into gear in the later rounds.
The Sauce landed three huge right hands to the chin in a row at the start of the tenth and Light’s legs did buckle for a second, but he found a way to stay on his feet and recovered brilliantly in the round.
Light took an even bigger hit in the 11th round but again refused to go down, showing off a chin that few in the division can rival.
