Latest Windows 11 update breaks some apps! WATCH out, you may be affected too

Windows 11 update failure has affected some anti-virus apps negatively! Do you have this latest Windows 11 update?

It has been more than a half-an-year since Microsoft released its latest Windows 11 OS. Users were a little sceptical in the early days of Windows 11 rollout due to some reported issues, but as Microsoft started rolling out new updates, the bugs and issues reported by the users started settling down. Of course, that’s what updates are meant for! But there is this latest Windows 11 update that has failed and left some important parts of Trend Micro’s antivirus (third party) and security products affected negatively. After the update, an affected antivirus reportedly failed to complete its virus scans.

This is due to some kind of bug in the latest update, which has been identified as Windows 11 KB5014019. Though, the exact reason behind this failure in completing virus scan isn’t clear yet, but Trend Micro, the cyber security software company, claims that the issue is related to a feature used in its antivirus protection tool, referred to as User Mode Hooking (UMH), a Windows Latest report reveals.

Will this new Windows 11 update affect you?

The KB5014019 is an optional update which doesn’t come with security features. Optional updates, also known as C updates by Microsoft, are normally provided during the third or fourth week of each month. Optional updates on Windows Update are clearly labelled as “preview”.

In this case, KB5014019 adds a couple of new features, including desktop support for Windows Spotlight, which was intended to debut with version 22H2 of Windows. The optional updates should not be pushed to all client systems, according to Microsoft. Optional updates, on the other hand, allow users to try out non-security changes that the company plans to release on Patch Tuesday next month.

How to restore this antivirus apps capabilities on Windows 11

Thankfully, unlike normal Patch Tuesday Windows updates, this affected Windows 11 latest preview updates are optional. These updates were issued to test bug fixes and performance improvements before the general mass release. Windows users should check for themselves by going to Windows Update features under Settings. Note that this update will not be installed until you tap on the ‘Download now’.

However, client and server versions of Windows are affected, with issues reported on systems running Windows 11, Windows 10 version 1809, and Windows Server 2022. Customers who have installed the optional Windows patch should either uninstall it temporarily or contact support for a UMH debug module, which should restore their security solution’s functionality.
