Lakers fans see deeper meaning behind LeBron’s first pick in NBA All-Star Game draft

LeBron James went with rookie Anthony Edwards with the first pick in the NBA All-Star Draft, convincing Lakers fans that he’s recruiting.

Ahead of Sunday night’s NBA All-Star Game, LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo had to compile their teams with a draft.

It all got started with reserves first and LeBron had the first pick. He selected Anthony Edwards of the Timberwolves.

Lakers fans read into that pick immediately.

Lakers fans think there’s more to LeBron picking Anthony Edwards

Admiration for Edwards is well-founded. He is averaging 24.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.5 assists this year, all career bests.

And he’s playing in Minnesota…which is why Lakers fans are so eager to dream about him following the trend of small-market stars making a major-market move at the first opportunity.

He’ll be a restricted free agent in 2024 if he doesn’t work out a new deal with the Timberwolves first.

If Lakers fans have their way, he’ll push for a trade or pick LA in free agency.

James went on to pick Jaylen Brown, Paul Georgia, Tyrese Haliburton, Julius Randle, De’Aaron Fox and Jaren Jackson Jr. to fill out his reserves.

When the time to pick starters, James selected Joel Embiid, Kyrie Irving, Kuka Doncic and Nikola Jokic for his starting five.

Antetokounmpo picked up Lauri Markkannen, Donovan Mitchell, Ja Morant and Jayson Tatum with reserves including Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Demar DeRozan, Pascal Siakam, Bam Adebayo and Domantas Sabonis.
