Lady Gaga Pulls Off Two Red Carpets In One Night

When Lady Gaga hits a red carpet, you never quite know what to expect—other than it’s going to be memorable. That was certainly the case tonight at the Critics Choice Awards, where the superstar hit the step and repeat in honor of her film House of Gucci (which she’s nominated for best actress for). Having delivered a Old Hollywood fashion moment at the BAFTAs in London just a few hours prior, Gaga switched things up at the Critics Choice Awards—which were being broadcast from both Los Angeles and London—with a new bold twist on the lace gown. Though often deemed demure or classic, the style was decidedly sexier and more modern in Gaga’s hands.

Given the film she’s nominated for this evening, Gaga’s choice to wear Gucci on the step and repeat felt appropriate. Designer Alessandro Michele crafted a unique creation for her to shine in. Up top, she wore a black lace bolero that channelled a classic gown, but was more avant-garde. With the black bra-slash-bustier completely open at the bust, it was a bold silhouette overall. The bottom of the dress, with crystal embellishment and a long, silk train, felt more timeless. She then accessorized with diamond earrings and bracelet from Tiffany & Co., further leaning into a Hollywood A-lister vibe.

All in all, it was a look only Gaga herself could pull off. The gown was a hybrid of different ideas that, on paper, shouldn’t work together—yet they did, and to dramatic effect. That’s simply the magical Gaga touch.
