Eight-time NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving is ‘expected to meet with several teams once free agency opens, most notably the Phoenix Suns’.

According to the report from Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, Irving is also expected to meet with the Dallas Mavericks – who most recently played for – while the Houston Rockets may also seek a meeting.

Suns general manager James Jones and new owner Mat Ishbia have already been ultra-aggressive this offseason in looking to build a championship roster, and they have already completed a massive trade that saw the Suns acquire Bradley Beal and send Chris Paul to the Washington Wizards.

Washington soon rerouted Paul to the Golden State Warriors.

Putting Irving in a lineup that already includes Beal, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant would certainly give the Suns a legitimate shot at winning a championship, however fitting all four under the salary cap would be difficult under the new NBA CBA.

If the Suns were to acquire Irving via a sign-and-trade they would be hard-capped at the first salary-cap apron, which is currently projected to be $172 million.

Phoenix also is not expected to have the luxury of using the 12.4 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception or the $5 million taxpayer mid-level exception at the moment.

Dallas is still considered to be the favorite to sign re-Irving after the surprising deal that saw them acquire him from the Brooklyn Nets just before the trade deadline.

The Mavericks are also able to offer Irving the biggest contract, and a max deal worth $272 million over five years.

A reunion between Irving and LeBron James has also been talked about at length, but recent reports say LA is planning to re-sign PG D’Angelo Russell, which would likely eliminate the roster spot for Irving.
