Kylian Mbappe becomes PSG’s ALL-TIME leading goal scorer after netting his 201st goal against Nantes

Kylian Mbappe has become Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time leading goalscorer after scoring in the club’s 4-2 win over Nantes. 

The 24-year-old sat level with Edinson Cavani prior to kick-off but wasted no time in overtaking the Uruguayan striker as he scored his 201st goal for the Ligue 1 giants. 

Mbappe looked set to wait another match to break the record until he controlled a cross from Timothee Pembele well before turning and finding the bottom corner in the second minute of injury-time against Nantes.

It has taken the Frenchman 247 appearances to achieve the feat having joined PSG from Monaco in 2017 for £159.2million. 

In comparison, Cavani needed 301 matches to score 200 goals during his seven-year stay in the French capital.

Speaking to Canal+ after the match, Mbappe said: ‘In the last five minutes, I wasn’t putting any pressure on myself, I knew I would beat it and I didn’t want to force it. It’s great that the goal came at the end. Playing here is a privilege, I’ve improved as a player, I’ve changed a lot. 

‘Playing at PSG is special for me. If you told me I would score with the captain’s armband on to break the record, I wouldn’t have believed it.’

‘It’s a personal achievement but I’m here for collective achievements. I’d like to thank my teammates, coaches, the management, and the supporters, who’ve given me everything here. 

‘We’re going to Munich to qualify for the next round, we’re determined and we’ve regained confidence.’

Christophe Galtier’s side got off to a dream start as Messi opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a left-footed volley form Fabian Ruiz’s cross. 

Five minutes later, Alban Lafont parried Nuno Mendes’s attempt into the path of Hadjam who, under pressure from Nordi Mukiele, bundled the ball into his own net to give PSG a 2-0 advantage.

In the 31st minute, however, Blas whipped a fine shot past Gianluigi Donnarumma to reduce the arrears, seven minutes before Ganago deflected a corner past the Italian keeper to level the contest.

But 15 minutes into the second half, ordered was restored as Danilo headed home from Mbappe’s cross before the France forward netted his record goal with a left-footed effort from inside the box.

Mbappe will seek to add to his 201 PSG goals in Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 second-leg tie against Bayern Munich, with the Bundesliga side holding a 1-0 lead from the first-leg.
