Kunal Kemmu is all set to make his directorial debut with his upcoming film Madgaon Express, which is being produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. In a new interview, Kunal confessed that though he liked Excel’s flagship movies such as Dil Chahta Hai and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, he couldn’t find them relatable.
He said that these movies were aspirational and he couldn’t relate to them because he has never been to Barcelona.He mentioned that the characters were rich brats and they come of age in places like Melbourne.
Kunal further added that they have a completely different agenda, they find realisation about life while scuba diving. But someone like him, who comes from Mira Road, doesn’t know anything about that and never done scuba diving. He said that if he showed his mother the Tomatina Festival, she’d lose it and ask why so many tomatoes were wasted.He then reflected on these characters and understood that they have everything. This made him realise that you can’t buy happiness. But he also have to represent people like him on screen to make it relatable to them. “So my pitch to the producers of those films for my film was ‘Mere jaise logon ka kya? Unke liye ye picture hai’,” Kunal said.
The actor also revealed that he has wrapped up the shoot of his directorial debut. It features Pratik Gandhi, Divyendu Sharma and Nora Fatehi among others.
