‘Kuch nahi badla, sab kuch waise ka waisa hai’: Twitterati react after Anderson triggers India’s top-order collapse

Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss for the first time in a Test match in England, however, it didn’t provide the results that they wanted as choosing to bat first against England in the third Test at Headingley proved to be beneficial for the home side as James Anderson was back to his best after a blip in the second Test at Lord’s.

Anderson got rid of KL Rahul in the first over on a fuller-length delivery, just outside the off-stump. Anderson set the Indian opener with inswinging deliveries and got him to edge on the one that shaped away just a touch and Rahul, who has been in a splendid form couldn’t resist going for his shot and was caught behind by the wicket-keeper Jos Buttler.

A few overs later, Anderson induced something similar with Cheteshwar Pujara. He bowled inswingers to Pujara for an over and had completely set him up for making a mistake and he did on the first ball of his third over as he edged it straight into Buttler’s gloves and India were in a spot of bother at 4-2.

Skipper Virat Kohli and opening batsman Rohit Sharma then kept the England bowlers at bay for a while, putting the bad balls to the boundary and leaving the ones in the channel of uncertainty.

However, the 39-year old was able to produce another bit of magic as he got the ball to shape away ever so slightly and got Kohli to play the ball, straight into the hands of Buttler – giving his third catch of the match and Anderson his thrid wicket.

It has been now 50 innings for Kohli now without an international century but the skipper’s problems outside the off-stump that were the reason of his undoing in 2014 have come to haunt him again as he has scored just 69 runs in the four innings.

India were in big trouble at 21/3 before Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane joined forces to help rescue the downfall of wickets.

The users on Twitter weren’t happy with Kohli’s form and also suggested that the top-order’s problems against the swinging ball weren’t going to end anytime soon while some users suggested that the familiar feeling of India’s wickets in quick succession were back. Many of the users also heaped praise on the legend, Anderson, who is aging just fine like wine.
