Kolkata Girl Studied Fashion Design, Left Job To Run Food Stall. She Is Viral Now

We often cover and bring you stories of street food vendors that touch our hearts. These stories tell the struggles and achievements of people and inspire us to do the same. No wonder, some of these stories grab attention on the internet and go viral. The story of Nandini Ganguly, a young girl from Kolkata, also made headlines recently. She is a well-known name in Kolkata’s foodscape, and running a roadside food stall is what brought her all the fame. She had studied fashion design, used to be in a job, but left it all to cook and serve traditional Bengali thalis in her street food stall.

Nandini’s father used to have a rubber business, which took a hit during the Coronavirus-led lockdown and had to shut down. Difficult times led Nandini to give up her job to help her parents to run the food stall. She manages to follow her hobby of cooking but not without foregoing her interest in fashion. She makes sure to dress up, even in the stall, and this too made people sit up and notice.

Nandini reaches her stall early in the morning to wash, peel, chop and cook a variety of dishes to be served the same day. She makes it a point to sell fresh food only. The thalis are reasonably priced too – Veg thali Rs. 30-40, Chicken thali – Rs. 100, Mutton thali – Rs. 200 and Fish thali – Rs.70-80. The menu features a range of Bengali dishes like aloo chokha, rice, moong dal, aloo fry kaddu aloo, baingan sabzi with vadi, bhaji, aloo bhaja, baingan bhaja, kadhi, macher jhol, chicken curry, mutton curry and more.
