KKR vs SRH Match Highlights: KKR consolidate fourth place with win over SRH – The big match highlights | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: It was a nervous win in a low-scoring affair that concluded in the final over of the match, but the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be happy to bag the two points against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), which kept their IPL 2021 playoff hopes alive.
Chasing a meagre 116 to win, Shubman Gill led the KKR run-chase with a responsible knock of 57.
Here are the major highlights of the match:

Sunrisers Hyderabad Innings
SRH lost Saha off the second ball: SRH’s decision to bat first received an early jolt when Tim Southee struck Wriddhiman Saha on his pads right in front of his stumps off the second ball of the SRH innings. Saha was dismissed LBW for a first-ball duck, as the scorecard read 11. Saha thought of going for a DRS appeal, but decided against it after a quick chat with his opening partner, Jason Roy.
Williamson looked good, but was run out for 26 in the 7th over: After losing openers Saha and Roy (10) with just 16 on the board in the fourth over, a lot depended on SRH skipper Kane Williamson. The New Zealander got a start, reaching 26 off 21 balls and was looking to play an attacking brand of cricket. But veteran cricketer Shakib al Hasan effected a big turning point in the match by running Williamson out. SRH at this stage were 38/3 in the seventh over.

KKR bowlers struck at regular intervals: The slide didn’t stop there. Southee (2/26), Shivam Mavi (2/29) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/26) kept chipping away at the wickets to stifle SRH’s innings on a sticky track. The total could eventually reach only a paltry 115/8, chiefly because of Abdul Samad (25 off 18) and Priyam Garg’s (21 off 31) rearguard knocks. But at the halfway mark, KKR were the clear favourites.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ Innings
After a watchful start, KKR lost Iyer & Tripathi quickly: What seemed an innocuous chase on paper turned out to be a tricky affair on a slow, low Dubai track, though. Gill and Venkatesh Iyer watchfully took the score to 23/0 in the fifth over. But two quick wickets followed, with Jason Holder removing Iyer for 8 and Rashid Khan getting rid of Rahul Tripathi for 7. The score at that stage read 38/2 in 6.4 overs.

Gill and Rana kept the KKR run-chase on track: But it was always going to be a matter of one strong partnership in a small chase, and it came off the bats of Gill and Nitish Rana. The duo added 55 runs for the third wicket to take the total to 93, when Gill (57 off 51 balls) was removed by Siddarth Kaul. At this stage KKR were 93/3 in the 17th over.

Karthik’s cameo took KKR home: Nitish Rana’s (25 off 33 balls) wicket marked the end of the 18th over and sent a few jitters to the KKR camp. They needed 14 off 12 balls at that stage and a calm head in the middle. That was provided by the seasoned veteran and former KKR captain Dinesh Karthik, who scored a quickfire 12-ball 18*, ensuring there were no more turning points in the game.
The win helped KKR consolidate the fourth spot on the points table. They now lead the four-team race for the last playoff spot. Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians are the other three teams in the fray. Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers have already booked their place in the playoffs, while the Sunrisers Hyderabad are out of contention.
