King Charles And Princess Diana’s Wedding Cake To Be Auctioned Soon

King Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding in 1981 made quite a buzz across the world. Thousands of media, photographers, and people from across the world gathered outside the Buckingham Palace to witness the wedding. Every minute detail was documented though articles, videos and photos, which are still available online. That’s not all. Even the wedding dress, the jewelleries are still on display for the world to witness the historical event. Now, you will also get to see the wedding cake the Royal couple had on their D-Day. How, you ask?

A recent report by ANI states that a slice of King Charles (then Prince Charles) and Princess Diana’s wedding cake will soon go up for auction for the world. According to New York Post, one of the guests at the wedding – Nigel Ricketts – had preserved a slice of the cake (from the event) for 41 years. After his death last year (in 2021), the piece of cake is now set to be auctioned off by Dore and Rees Auctions in the United Kingdom.

The report further states that the cake “has a pre-sale estimate of GBP 300 which is equivalent to more than Rs. 27,000 (as per the current conversion rate).” The cake is packaged in its original box and is anticipated to sell for much more.

For the unversed, the wedding was attended by almost 3000 guests and had 23 official wedding cakes. The reports state that this slice seems to be from the centerpiece fruitcake, which had five layers and was a whopping five feet tall.

With the auction announcement, the Dore and Rees website uploaded a hand-written note by the Royal Staffer that reads, “Diana and I are touched beyond words that you should have gone to so much trouble to find something so eminently useful…And I can assure you that we will treasure it in whichever house it finally comes to rest!”

For the unversed, in 2014, a slice of the same cake was sold for GBP 1,375 , which is equivalent to more than INR 1,27,000 (as per the current day conversion rate).
