Kieran Gibbs terminates his contract with Inter Miami to begin broadcasting role with the team

Kieran Gibbs terminates his contract with Inter Miami and is set to begin a broadcasting role with the team… but the 33-year-old former Arsenal defender does not officially announce that he is retiring

Long-time English soccer star Kieran Gibbs has mutually terminated his contract with Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami, while it was also announced that he will take up a new role for the club’s Apple TV coverage.

Gibbs will be the host of ‘The Inter Miami Show’ and other key content pieces on Inter Miami’s Club Room that is available on Apple TV, while also taking up a role as a play-by-play commentator and joining current Apple TV talent Chris Wittyngham.

‘I’m delighted to have transitioned into this new exciting role as Inter Miami’s club on-air talent, and I’m looking forward to this great opportunity to share my experience and insight of the club through the amazing content that will be available on Apple TV,’ Gibbs said in a press release.

The announcement mentioned no word of Gibbs officially retiring, but it would appear that the transition to a TV role will mark the end of the 33-year-old Gibbs’ playing career.

Gibbs initially joined Inter Miami halfway through the 2021 season after making over 300 combined appearances during his time playing in England.

He is most known for his time at Arsenal where he made 229 appearances through all competitions.

While playing for the Gunners he won the FA Cup on three consecutive occasions – lifting the trophy at the end of the 2013/2014, 2014/2015, and 2016/2017 seasons.

After moving on from Arsenal he went on to make 100 total appearances for West Brom, and also spent a season on loan at Norwich during his time in England.

Gibbs also made 10 senior England international appearances during his career.

He never appeared as a week-to-week starter after moving to Miami, who often played homegrown players Noah Allen and Christopher McVey at full back last year.

They also signed veteran Argentine left back Franco Negri to provide depth at the position.

As of now Gibbs is still listed as an active member of the Inter Miami roster on the team’s official website.
